Dr. Ngar graduated from medical school in Hong Kong and qualified as an Orthopaedic Surgeon there in 1995. Before immigrating to New Zealand in 1998, he served at Princess Margaret Hospital in Hong Kong for 10 years. In 2001, Dr. Ngar was accepted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and became a qualified surgeon in New Zealand.
Dr. Ngar served in the Department of Orthopaedics at Waikato Hospital for 3 years, followed by 14 years as a full-time Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Lakes DHB, serving the Rotorua and Taupo areas. Alongside broad experience in general orthopaedics and injury care, he has a particular interest in children's orthopaedics and foot/ankle surgery, and was in charge of the baby clubfoot service in Rotorua with very satisfactory results.
Dr. Ngar has a strong concern for disadvantaged groups — he has visited Kenya twice on medical missions, and provided voluntary surgical services in remote parts of China. He wishes to put his orthopaedic skills and experience, together with his fluency in Mandarin, Cantonese and English, to use serving the Chinese community in Auckland.
Since 2016, Dr. Ngar has collaborated with Windsor Medical Centre (North Shore) and Ormiston Specialist Centre (Flat Bush) to provide orthopaedic consultations and surgical treatment. As an ACC Healthcare Provider and Southern Cross Affiliated Provider, he accepts all referrals from family doctors, including clients of other insurance companies.
